Elementary Science

Students will not master the strands that are being taught in school unless teachers help students develop a love for science.

  1. I am going to pose the Iceberg question to my 3rd Grade class. My students love science because they have a passionate, enthusiastic teacher! Sometimes we do extra science stuff at recess just so we can do it! I am curious to see what happens when I pose the question to my students. I want to see who grabs an atlas and what kinds of questions they come up with!

  2. How did your structured inquiry lesson go? I had to take a little while to figure our how to introduce the animal lesson with the guidelines we had to follow. I ended up with a great lesson plan and it went really well in my classroom. Coincidentally, I was also observed that day and got the feedback of one of the science coaches! Good thing I don't have to develop lesson plans like that all the time. It was pretty time consuming. How did yours go? Any new ideas you want to pass along? Using animal cards and having the students brainstorm to fit them all into categories and then explain their thinking was really great.

  3. I lesson went well! I presented the lesson a lot different than I usually present my lessons, however the outcome exceeded my expectations. The lesson did take time to create but the end result was well worth it. I look forward to implementing more inquiry lessons in the future.

  4. I love inquiry lessons as well the hands on approach seems to reach all of my learners... and that is often rare!
